Director General opens First UNIDO Forum on inclusive and sustainable industrial development
VIENNA, 23 June 2014 – Director General LI Yong at the opening of a Forum on strategies towards achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development, together with Justin Yifu Lin, Honorary Dean at the National School of Development, Peking University. The forum initiated a strategic dialogue drawing on international expertise and regional knowledge with UNIDO Member States, development agencies, and other developed and developing countries on ways to operationalize inclusive and sustainable industrial development strategies and policies.

BRATISLAVA, 17 June 2014 - Director General LI Yong today met with Dusan Petrik, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the Government of Slovakia and UNIDO.The meeting took place on the margins of the Europe and Central Asia Strategic Consultation held in Bratislava in the framework of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG) consultations on “Engaging with the Private Sector”. The Bratislava consultation, co-led by UNIDO and United Nations Global Compact, was hosted by the Government of Slovakia in the historical premises of the Slovak Parliament, underlining the fruitful partnership between UNIDO and Slovakia. Both parties agreed to explore further areas for joint activities.

GENEVA, 16 June 2014 - Meeting with the WTO Director General Roberto Azevêdo, Director General Li reconfirmed UNIDO’s commitment to the Aid for Trade (AFT) Initiative and to its new Work Programme entitled “Reducing Trade Costs For Inclusive, Sustainable Growth”. He highlighted UNIDO’s focus under AFT on overcoming the challenges faced by the private sector in developing countries to integrate into global value chains, with a particular emphasis on quality and standards. In this context, the Director General of WTO referred to the positive link between standards and investment and expressed an interest in working more closely together with UNIDO in this area.
GENEVA, 16 June 2014 - Meeting with the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), Arancha González, the Director General recognized the fruitful cooperation between UNIDO and the ITC, both regarding technical assistance and global forum activities. Explaining UNIDO’s focus on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), the Director General noted that UNIDO’s contributions in the field of trade capacity-building had been widely recognized. In light of the very strong potential for successfully strengthening this important partnership, the principles agreed to identify concrete areas and projects for delivery on the grounds in which to work together.
GENEVA, 16 June 2014 - At his meeting with the Director General of the International Labour Organization(ILO) Guy Ryder, Director General LI Yong underlined how inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) should be seen as the ideal platform for enhanced cooperation between the two organizations. Both principals agreed on the complementarity of mandates of UNIDO and ILO and the need for industrialization to contribute to decent employment, as laid out in the Lima Declaration. The executive heads concurred to work even more closely together in the future.
GENEVA, 16 June 2014 - The Director General began his mission to Geneva with a meeting with UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi. Congratulating him on the 50th anniversary of UNCTAD, the Director General highlighted the promotion of industry, trade and investment for inclusive and sustainable development as the common objective for both UNIDO and UNCTAD in the discussions on the post-2015 development agenda. He also underscored the broad potential for enhancing the partnership between the two organizations in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth as a shared goal for which trade acted as an important enabler, and highlighted a number of important focus areas of complementarity at the advocacy and technical assistance level.
Director General met with Armenian President
VIENNA, 12 June 2014 - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, on an official visit to Austria, met today with Director General LI Yong. After briefing him on the operationalization of the ISID mandate, the DG highlighted the new programmes UNIDO will be implementing to support its Member States including industrialization policies and strategies. He also commended the President’s vision for the development of his country. President Sargsyan conveyed his appreciation for UNIDO’s mission and emphasized the important role played by the Organization around the world in the field of poverty reduction and industrial development. He said he looked forward to strengthening the cooperation between Armenia and UNIDO in selected areas such as youth employment and agro-industries.

Director General on mission to 5th GEF Assembly in Mexico
CANCUN, 30 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong thanked Naoko Ishii, the GEF CEO for the hospitality and congratulated her on the successful 5th GEF Assembly and the conclusion of the GEF-6 Replenishment negotiations. He took the opportunity to brief her on UNIDO’s new mandate that focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) and highlighted the strength of UNIDO GEF partnership over the past decade. The DG expressed UNIDO’s support to the GEF-6 strategic directions, highlighting the potential growth areas, and expressed UNIDO’s readiness to continue building its GEF portfolio within the context of GEF-6. Naoko Ishii thanked the DG for his support of the GEF and for his participation in the 5th GEF Assembly. She indicated with appreciation that UNIDO is one of the GEF Implementing Agencies which has managed to achieve significant growth over the past decade, in terms of increasing the share of its GEF portfolio.
CANCUN, 29 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong briefed Eduardo Ganem, Chief Officer of the Secretariat of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocal on UNIDO’s new mandate that focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID). Furthermore, the DG stressed UNIDOs commitment to increase its implementation share. He informed Ganem that UNIDO is preparing two Forums (June and October 2014) focusing on strategies and instruments for ISID and took the opportunity to extend an invitation to Ganem to participate in these forums. The DG also highlighted that UNIDO is a partner of the Climate Summit 2014 that will take place in New York in September and in this context, encouraged the Multilateral Fund Secretariat to organize a side event at the margins of the Summit. Ganem stated that Implementing Agencies of the Montreal Protocol are currently facing a number of challenges in the areas of innovation, technology demonstration and transfer, due to the complexities of decisions that countries have to make to phase out hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). He underlined UNIDOs exceptional performance working in the field and innovative approaches for implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

CANCUN, 29 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong met with Rémi Allah-Kouadio, Minister of Environment, Urban Hygiene and Development of Côte d'Ivoire. The DG took the opportunity to thank Kouadio for his participation as chair of the plenary conference on renewable energy, organized by UNIDO in January 2014 as a side event of the investment promotion forum “ICI2014” in Abidjan. Furthermore, the DG briefed Kouadio on the ongoing UNIDO TC portfolio in Côte d’Ivoire in the area of environment and renewable energy. The DG highlighted an early GEF-6 project concept on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Kouadio called on UNIDO’s urgent assistance to review the draft sustainable development policy and supporting bill. Assistance from UNIDO would be required to assess (i) air, water and soil pollution by industry on a sector-by-sector basis; (ii) technologies to contain the pollution; (iii) an implementation strategy. The DG committed UNIDO to support him in the sustainable development policy with the best practices available.
CANCUN, 29 May 2014 - Director General Li held a meeting with Judi Wakhungu, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources of Kenya. The DG informed the Minister of the ongoing UNIDO TC portfolio in Kenya and highlighted opportunities for complementary projects within the framework of the GEF-6 strategy. The importance of Agro-Industrial Value Chains, specifically, the livestock sector was stressed, as they offer opportunities for interventions linked to economic development as well as environmental concerns like waste to energy, biomass utilization, and energy efficiency. Judy Wakhungu explained that the industrialization is one of the priorities of the Government and as related problems are multi-facetted and cross sectorial, the Government has clustered associated Ministries to work together. She listed the slaughterhouse project as a good example of UNIDOs cooperation with Kenya and expressed the need to replicate and upscale the operation within Nairobi and other areas in the country.
CANCUN, 29 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong took the opportunity to brief Guatemalan Vice-Minister Montero on UNIDO’s new mandate that focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID). Montero indicated that industrial value chains are a Guatemalan priority (e.g. wood management, diary production, fruits and vegetables, etc.), and that the Government of Guatemala is currently selecting relevant productive chains that will be the base to discuss and define with UNIDO a number of projects to be submitted to the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol. Conversations will continue in order to define concrete cooperation projects based on the priorities expressed by Vice-Minister Montero.
CANCUN, 29 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong met with Paul Oquist Kelley, Nicaraguan Minister and Private Secretary of the Citizen's Power for National Policies. During the meeting, the DG emphasized the commitment of UNIDO to support the Government of Nicaragua and indicated the need to jointly explore the opportunities emerging from GEF 6. Oquist Kelley introduced the main macro-economic development of the country since 2007, the major national strategic drivers of development and the actions needed to strengthen the domestic SMIs sector. Additionally, Oquist Kelley stressed the importance of the implementation of the strategic plans for a transformation of the industrial structure of Nicaragua and welcomed UNIDOs commitment and assistance that could become essential in meeting these challenges. It is expected that further conversations will take place in the short run, with the aim of defining the respective projects and the related funding.
CANCUN, 28 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong met with Magdy Martínez-Solimán, Director a.i of the Bureau for Development Policy in UNDP. Based on the past collaboration between UNIDO and UNDP, they discussed the future cooperation opportunities along the lines of Green Economy, Agro-Industry development, jobs and income generation, and the fight against Climate Change. The importance of further cooperation and delivering as one UN was stressed from both parties.
CANCUN, 28 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong met with Laurentia Mallam, Nigerian Minister of Environment. The DG thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria for the successful partnerships and collaboration with UNIDO over the years in the implementation of TC programmes. Additionally, he took the opportunity to stress (i) the importance of the private sector and industrial manufacturing for inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ii) the Green Industry Platform as a good opportunity for Nigeria to participate in this knowledge network of UNIDO, (iii) and the assessment of value chains as a good approach. Mallam highlighted UNIDO as a familiar and reliable partner, in particular in programmes with the Ministry of Industry on SMEs and agro-industry development. She stressed that environmental concerns are crosscutting in nature and confirmed the approach on renewable energy for productive use as a suitable intervention. As an outcome of the meeting, it was agreed that conversations will continue in order to define more in detail potential interventions under GEF-6, including interventions on Chemicals and International Waters.

CANCUN, 28 May 2014 - Director General LI Yong took the opportunity to brief Vice-Minister Leonardo Beltrán on UNIDO’s new mandate that focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) and on the organization’s activities and plan of operations. In this regard, based on the legislation recently passed in Mexico on Sustainable Use of Energy and on the related National Programme, Beltrán indicated that UNIDO’s contribution will certainly add value to the current national efforts in the sector. The DG stressed the leadership of Mexico in the Latin American Region and that, in terms of South-South Cooperation, the country can make a significant contribution, side by side with UNIDO, to assist Least Developed Countries (LDC) of the region in their path to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. Beltrán agreed to join forces with the organization in supporting LDC, based on their national energy priorities surrounded by the concept of ISID.

ASTANA, 4 May 2014 - Foreign Minister, Erlan Idrissov, expressed full support for UNIDO’s new mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and underlined the importance of its inclusion into the Sustainable Development Goals and the post-2015 agenda. The Minister said that UNIDO’s technical cooperation services will be instrumental in achieving the goals of the National Development Strategy of Kazakhstan 2050. The Government plans to allocate funding for the development of UNIDO project proposals for Kazakhstan. The Minister also asked UNIDO to consider establishing a regional office in Almaty. Director General Li Yong agreed that Kazakhstan is placed well to play a strategic role in the Central Asian region, and welcomed the Government initiative to develop its own external aid programme, which UNIDO will be glad to support.
ASTANA, 2 May 2014 – Director General LI Yong met with Asset Issekeshev, Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and New Technologies. He expressed UNIDO’s readiness to form stronger multilateral partnerships aimed at achieving greater efficiency in promoting inclusive and sustainable development in Kazakhstan. UNIDO was called an important partner for the implementation of a five year National Programme for Accelerated Industrial-Innovative Development and Programme Productivity 2020.
ASTANA, 2 May 2014 – Director General LI Yong with Nurlan Kapparov, Minister of Environment and Water Resources. The Minister expressed interest in UNIDO activities in the area of green industry and informed about the adopted Concept for Transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Green Economy, noting that Kazakhstan is willing to act as a regional knowledge hub for the promotion of green technologies and share best practices in the region through the Government's Green Bridge Partnership Programme. UNIDO was requested to assist the Ministry in establishing a high-tech industry park within the facilities to be constructed in Astana for the international exhibition EXPO 2017 on Future Energy.
ASTANA, 2 May 2014 – Director General LI Yong, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov, today signed a joint declaration on cooperation. The declaration builds on the partnership between UNIDO and the Republic of Kazakhstan to further enhance bilateral cooperation in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Kazakhstan by using UNIDO’s expertise to contribute to the government’s efforts to industrialize the economy. The declaration will also facilitate the implementation of the planned UNIDO Country Programme Framework for Kazakhstan for 2015-2017.
ASTANA, 1 May 2014 – Director General LI Yong met today with Takehiko Nakao, the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), to discuss cooperation in the Asia and Pacific region based on each organization’s comparative edge and demand of member states. Li and Nakao are participating in the 47th annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) being held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 1 to 4 May. Director General Li briefed President Nakao on UNIDO’s new mandate that focuses of inclusive and sustainable industrial development and on the organization’s activities and plan of operations. He highlighted the role of partnerships in the implementation of the new mandate, and said that the impact of technical assistance could be raised through leveraging resources from partners such as ADB.

BISHKEK, 29 April 2014 – Director General Li was received by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, who expressed confidence that cooperation with UNIDO will provide strong contribution to the sustainable economic growth in Kyrgyzstan. Stressing the importance of the UNIDO project “Feasibility study for the establishment of a fruit and vegetable supply chain logistical support” for strengthening the agro-processing industry”, the President expressed hope that it will not only stimulate the development of the sector, but will boost the export of this industry.
BISHKEK, 28 April 2014 – Director General Li met with Prime Minister Dzhoomart Otorbaev, who expressed appreciation for UNIDO’s activities in the country and highlighted potential areas for future cooperation, including in the field of organic food production and food processing, the development of green tourism and small and medium enterprises, as well as in quality standards and certification for market access, and small hydro power.

At the G77 Plenary Discussion on mainstreaming youth in the post-2015 development agenda
VIENNA, 4 April 2014 – Director General LI Yong said today that youth employment was an urgent matter that should be adequately reflected in the post-2015 development agenda process. Speaking at the G77 Plenary Discussion on mainstreaming youth in the post-2015 development agenda and promoting youth entrepreneurship for industrial development, he said: “We at UNIDO are committed to support developing countries in the ambitious endeavor towards a people-centred development agenda – an agenda that builds new and more inclusive development pathways with the aim of providing equal employment opportunities for all people, and especially women and youth.” He added that “the views of young people, their concerns, their energies, and their courage are critical to the post-2015 development agenda process”.

ABUJA, 31 March 2014 – Director General LI Yong met with Chinedu Nebo, Minister of Power, who commended UNIDO on its efforts to industrialize Nigeria and the successful implementation of small hydro power plants across the country. Nebo requested UNIDO's assistance to drive the Government’s recently launched initiative "Operation light up rural Nigeria 2014", targeted at providing access to clean energy for rural communities not connected to the national grid. The DG confirmed UNIDO's readiness to work closely with Nigeria on its power sector and invited the Minister to attend two upcoming UNIDO forums on industrial parks and partnerships.
ABUJA, 30 March 2014 – Director General LI Yong took part in a high-level meeting together with the leaders of the African Union, UNAIDS, and UNECA, titled "Local manufacture of pharmaceuticals: an untapped opportunity for inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Africa". African leaders and key multilateral organizations are strengthening and broadening support for local production of essential medicines on the continent. The event was organized on the side-lines of the Seventh Joint African Union Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development taking place in Abuja from 25 to 30 March.

Identifying UNIDO as the preferred partner for the country's renewed drive towards industrialization, Aganga thanked Li for choosing Nigeria as a pilot country for implementing UNIDO's new vision of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and hopes that a stronger working relationship will give Nigeria more leverage on UNIDO's activities. ABUJA, 29 March 2014 – Director General LI Yong with Jan Eliasson, UN Deputy Secretary-General. Li briefed Eliasson on UNIDO’s vision of inclusive and sustainable industrial development and a forum to be held in Vienna in June, where a number of pilot countries will be selected to implement this approach. He also emphasized that the Organization is looking forward to cooperating closer with other UN agencies, governments and the private sector, and this will be the main topic of its forum on partnerships in October. Eliasson commended Li on the new vision, stressing the importance it had within the sustainability debate and to Africa's industrialization, and encouraged its inclusion in the post 2015 development agenda.

During the meeting Laraba expressed her gratitude to UNIDO for supporting Nigeria fulfill its multilateral environmental agreements and for mobilizing funds to develop and implement environment projects. Laraba requested UNIDO’s support with the creation of green industries that boost employment, the development and implementation of multilateral environmental projects, and with implementing Nigeria’s vision 20:2020 for the environment sector. DG Li assured Laraba of the Organization’s continuous support to the government of Nigeria.

DAKAR, 25 March 2014 - Director General LI met President Macky Sall, who highlighted the critical role of manufacturing in development, and pointed to the need to add value to the country’s natural resources and strengthen Senegal’s industrial platforms and the industrial upgrading of firms. Li thanked him for his support of UNIDO’s vision of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and highlighted UNIDO’s efforts to ensure that inclusive and sustainable industrial development was included in the post-2015 development agenda and SDGs. DAKAR, 24 March 2014 - During his official visit to Senegal, Director General LI Yong was received by Prime Minister Aminata Touré, who said Senegal supported UNIDO in ensuring industry was prominent in the post-2015 development agenda, and highlighted the programme on multifunctional platforms introduced by UNIDO in from 2000-2004, and the cluster development pilot project saying that they could be up scaled. Li said Senegal would remain a high priority for UNIDO and that the new country programme covered national priority areas of cooperation including agro-business, vocational training for youth, SMEs development. Austria and UNIDO support regional sustainable energy promotion centres for Small Island Developing States
VIENNA, 17 March 2014 – A memorandum of understanding on the establishment of regional sustainable energy centers in the Pacific, Caribbean, Africa and the Indian Ocean was signed in Vienna today by Ambassador Michael Linhart, Secretary-General for Foreign Affairs of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vince Henderson, Chairman of the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy Initiative (SIDS DOCK) Steering Committee, and LI Yong, the Director General of UNIDO. The centres will work towards the creation of an enabling environment for regional renewable energy and energy efficiency markets by mitigating existing barriers. They will focus on policy implementation, capacity building, knowledge management and awareness raising, as well as business and investment promotion.

VIENNA, 11 March 2014 - Director General LI Yong briefed UNIDO Member States on operationalizing the Lima Declaration and UNIDO’s positioning, as well as the concept of inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the post-2015 development agenda. The Director General introduced the three goals for UNIDO for 2014: the effective promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrial development; the alignment of UNIDO’s services to support efforts towards achieving its medium and long-term strategic objectives; and the optimization of UNIDO’s internal functions in order to manage operations more efficiently and effectively. He said he believed these three goals would lead to the successful global promotion and implementation of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. He briefed President Xi about the 15th session of the UNIDO General Conference to be held in Lima, Peru from 2 to 6 December, and shared with Xi his new vision for UNIDO with a focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID). President Xi spoke highly of UNIDO praising the Organization for helping developing countries achieve industrial development. HANGZHOU, China, 8 November 2013 – Director General Li today visited the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP). The Director of the ICSHP, Liu Heng, briefed him on technical cooperation projects and activities implemented by the Center in recent years, and on joint efforts undertaken with UNIDO related to the publication of the World Small Hydro Power Development Report 2013, which was launched at the 6th Hydro Power for Today Forum on 29 October in Campinas, Brazil. Director General Li takes part in Green Industry Conference, signs agreement during China visit
GUANGZHOU, China, 7 November 2013 – Director General Li spoke at the opening of the third Green Industry Conference which has a focus on promoting the rapid uptake of green industry in harmony with the Earth’s ecosystems. The three-day event was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and UNIDO.
Director General Li after signing a memorandum of understanding with MIAO Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People’s Republic of China. Under the agreement, UNIDO and MIIT will initiate cooperation to promote green industry and cleaner production in China, including industrial water and energy efficiency, as well as programmes to reduce the use of lead. They will work together in support of eco-design, the utilization of industrial solid wastes and renewable resources, sustainable development of SMEs, and green industrial parks.
Meeting with MA Xiuhong, Executive Director of China Foreign Trade Centre, former Vice Minister of Commerce. She expressed interest in expanding cooperation with UNIDO in the field of technical training courses on energy and environment. The Director General highlighted the importance of South-South and Trilateral cooperation, and expressed readiness to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and carry out technical cooperation projects in the Pacific Island countries, in particular in renewable energy such as solar.
Dilip Barua, Bangladesh Industry Minister, who met Director General Li on 7 November in Guangzhou, expressed satisfaction with the current large portfolio of UNIDO technical cooperation projects in his country, including on standards and accreditation, fisheries, textile, leather and environmental protection. He highlighted the importance of sustainable industrialization for the people of Bangladesh, and proposed new areas of joint cooperation, namely medical waste treatment, and renewable energy. The Director General expressed gratitude to the Minister for his support to the Green Industry Conference in China.

TOKYO, 6 November 2013 - Director General Li visited the Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN) in Tokyo where he was welcomed by Takashi Funato, Chairman of the Policy Sub-Committee on International Cooperation and Executive Vice President and Head, Global Strategic Planning and Operations Headquarters, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., and Nobuko Sanui, Managing Director. They discussed the experience of Japan in successfully dealing with a range of industrial problems, including environmental pollution, and agreed that Japan’s experience can guide developing and emerging countries in their efforts to industrialize.
Director General Li was also received today by Mitsuhiro Furusawa, Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs. Director General Li expressed his appreciation for Japan’s contribution to UNIDO and interest to develop relations even further to benefit from Japan’s expertise in industrialization and technical assistance. Furusawa commended the Director General for his strong leadership in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and stressed UNIDO’s role as a major implementing partner of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with many projects undertaken in recipient member states of UNIDO.
TOKYO, 5 November 2013 - Director General Li was received by State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Midori Matsushima. Minister Matsushima commended UNIDO for its efforts to promote green industry by balancing economic growth with environmental considerations, and encouraged UNIDO to play an even stronger role in this area. Director General Li expressed his appreciation for the substantive support of METI to the Organization, including for UNIDO's Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Tokyo which helps promote investment and technology transfer from Japan to developing countries.
The Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Seiji Kihara, voiced full support for UNIDO’s new focus on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), and said the relationship between MOFA and UNIDO will also help further develop collaboration with the private sector in Japan. BERLIN, 30 October 2013 – During his official visit to Berlin today, Director General LI Yong was received by Harald Braun, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, and Dirk Niebel, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Director General Li and Dirk Niebel signed an agreement under which the Government of Germany will continue funding a UNIDO project in support of local production of essential generic medicines in developing and least developed countries, including in Africa.
Director General Li briefed Secretary of State Harald Braun on his new vision for UNIDO based on the concept of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and about preparations for the forthcoming General Conference in Lima. Secretary Braun expressed the support of the German government for UNIDO and for the Director General's vision.
Director General Li in Moscow for meetings with government officials
Renat Gizatulin, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Russian Federation, highlighted cooperation on clean technologies for SMEs, which is a priority area for the Russian Federation. He suggested the establishment of a Russian Technology Centre, in cooperation with UNIDO, to support the development and dissemination of new technologies and best practices, with a view to facilitating greater access to such knowledge and information for Russian SMEs.
The DG also met with Vladimir Yakunin, President of the Russian Railways Company. During the meeting, they signed a Joint Declaration on support for the advancement of environmentally sustainable solutions in the Russian Federation.
