Costa Rica hosts conference of ministers of industry and economy from Latin America and the Caribbean

VIENNA, 11 April 2014 - Ministers from the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region convened in San José, Costa Rica, from 10 to 11 April for the second Conference of LAC ministers of industry and economy. 

Co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the conference was a follow-up to the first UNIDO LAC Ministerial Conference held in Lima, Peru on 1 December 2013. 

The event helped strengthen the development of productive and industrial policies that boost sustainable and inclusive development in the region.  

Discussions focused on value chains and associativity; employment, investment and education; sustainable production and energy; and, the incorporation of the specific needs of women and youth into employment-generating, inclusive development policies.
