Results of regional project for EurAsEC countries presented in Vienna
VIENNA, 27 February 2014 – A USD 2.2 million project, funded by the Russian Federation, has helped promote regional industrial cooperation and integration among the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) countries by establishing a Centre for International Industrial Cooperation in Armenia, with similar centres currently under development in Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The results of the project, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), were presented today in Vienna to senior representatives of the Permanent Missions of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Tajikistan attended the event.
Ambassador Vladimir Voronkov of Russia said: “The Russian Federation is keen to see the further advancement of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Our participation in international organizations is an opportunity to complement this cooperation with best practices and modern technology. This is why one of the first projects we chose back in 2009, when Russia began funding UNIDO projects, focused on the industrial cooperation and integration among EurAsEC countries.”
He added that the project was the first in a series of Russia-funded programmes that UNIDO will continue implementing in the CIS region focusing on agriculture, the auto industry, statistics, the textile industry, and the production of building materials.
The project helped develop the EurAsEC industrial cooperation network, upgrade Russian SME food suppliers, and modernize the EurAsEC textile industry value chains. It also facilitated the cooperation of techno parks and business incubators between EurAsEC countries and the EU, and helped expand cooperation with UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs).
During today’s meeting, a presentation was also delivered by Vladimir Maltcev, Director, Industrial Policy Department, Eurasian Economic Commission.
