UNIDO and NL Agency of the Dutch Economic Affairs Ministry to cooperate on climate change mitigation, sustainable industrial development
VIENNA, 18 December 2013 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and NL Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands will enhance collaboration in supporting and promoting climate change mitigation activities and inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding in Vienna today agreeing to share knowledge and expertise relating to industrial energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, environmental management, sustainable industrial development and green economy.
They will also work closely on disseminating best-practices, and provide policy guidance and facilitate collaboration with public and private sector entities.
“We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the NLAgency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands with a focus on inclusive and sustainable industrial development,” said UNIDO Director General LI Yong.
“This agreement is very timely. International efforts to mitigate climate change have never been more urgent. Industrial development policies have recently re-gained the centre stage in national and international policy dialogues, and the green economy paradigm is gaining more and more thrust.”
“The Netherlands is striving for a green economic growth strategy with a high priority for energy efficiency and a sustainable energy supply. NL Agency realizes that in a globalizing world this ambitious goals can only be met through cooperation, nationally and internationally,” said R. W. Boerée, Acting Director NL Agency and Director, NL Energy and Climate Change.
“We look forward to an active collaboration with UNIDO. A collaboration we would like to feed with our long lasting experience with industry in the field of climate change mitigation and building coalitions.”
