The promotion of climate policies and strong networks for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups and entrepreneurs, has the potential to contribute to the mitigation of climate change, while simultaneously strengthening the comparative advantage and competitiveness of the industrial sector in developing and emerging economies.

Such climate policies and networks contribute to job creation, improved living standards and the development of sustainable and inclusive regional and global value chains.

UNIDO responds to the increasing demand for innovative partnerships, multi-level and integrated solutions to simultaneously address the challenges of energy, climate and development. It coordinates, develops and executes activities, programmes, projects in three areas, namely low carbon technologies and cross cutting issues, global networks and platform, and gender responsive climate policy.

In so doing, UNIDO's activities contribute particularly to the cross-cutting area of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 on Sustainable Energy and SDG 9 on sustainable industrial development.
