FIELD TRIP TO ASGM COMMUNITIES IN THE MEDIO ATRATO MUNICIPALITY, COLOMBIA
A delegation led by UNIDO Field Office in Colombia and accompanied by members of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Colombia and experts on ASGM will travel to the Medio Atrato municipality (Department of Chocó, Colombia) in February 2019.
The purpose is to gather first-hand information on the current situation of ASGM practices in the Bebará and Bebaramá mining communities of the Medio Atrato Municipality, an isolated region in one of the most biodiverse areas of the country.
This field assessment will set the baseline for a future project on ASGM formalization and economic alternatives under development.
In addition to the artisanal gold miners, the main stakeholders include the local authorities, the Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia.
