Tajik carpet and textile collection showcased

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, 26 May 2017 - Tajik brand, “LA'AL Textiles", established as part of a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) technical cooperation project, has presented its new carpet and home textile collection.

The event was attended by more than 150 high-level representatives from the Government of Tajikistan, the public and private sectors, international organizations and the donor countries, academia, as well as media representatives.

LA'AL Textiles’ unique collection of hand-made and machined carpets is based on original Tajik ornaments, taking into account the latest fashion design trends.

The textile collection combined rich traditions in folk arts and crafts and national design trends, and is inspired by the colour palette of the Pamir Mountains and the enchanting beauty of Tajik lakes.

All the products are united by a single concept and represent a stylish embodiment of the rich and colourful oriental culture of mountainous Tajikistan while meeting quality standards.

Speaking at the opening, Valery Dergachev, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan, said, “This project is unique as it provides opportunities for job creation, the modernization of this important industrial sector and, importantly, brings the beautiful culture, history and traditions of Tajikistan into the modern interpretation of carpet weaving in Tajikistan”.

The brand, LA’AL Textiles, was created in Tajikistan in 2016 in the framework of the UNIDO project providing technical assistance to modernize the carpet-weaving and embroidery sectors and bringing innovation to traditional industries. The brand name is inspired by a semi-precious stone originating from the mountains of Badakhshan called la’al, which has been praised for centuries by poets and travellers for its outstanding colour and magical features, and became a symbol of perfection, elegance, prosperity and success.

Funded by the governments of China and the Russian Federation, the US$1.2m project is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan.
