UNIDO’s first app  the SDG 9 Accelerator has been launched to connect, inform and bring together industrial development practitioners

As a good example of progress by innovation, UNIDO’s Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean conceptualized a dedicated knowledge network for ISID professionals in the region. The SDG 9 Accelerator Platform is the one-stop shop for sustainable industrial development in Spanish, a unique communication tool that brings UNIDO closer to its Member States.

As UNIDO’s General Director, Gerd Müller, pointed out in the official launch event, the SDG 9 Accelerator highlights “the emphasis that the Organization places on strengthening existing and forging new alliances at the global, regional and sub-regional level, as well as promoting South-South and Triangular cooperation”.

The SDG 9 Accelerator Platform is a one-stop shop for sustainable industrial development in Spanish, accessible at www.ods9.org and in English at www.sdg9accelerator.org. It was designed to bring together national policymakers responsible for industrial development in the region with top experts, closing communication gaps, facilitating collaboration, and establishing partnerships. The platform provides decision-makers, the private sector, development agencies, civil society, and academia with the opportunity to exchange knowledge and good practices on national priority areas related to achieving an inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

UNIDO aims to contribute to a green transformation of the industrial development model of Latin America and the Caribbean with the SDG 9 Accelerator Platform. Mr. Diego Masera, UNIDO's Chief of Bureau for LAC explains that “the SDG 9 Accelerator works as a driver for integration and innovation from three different perspectives: connecting policymakers and sustainable development professionals from the private sector, civil society, and academia in the Latin American and Caribbean region; providing information on innovative and good practices; and encouraging the sharing of experiences and knowledge among peers to solve common challenges”.

To improve accessibility to the SDG 9 Accelerator platform, UNIDO recently launched its new app at the Regional Conference "Accelerating SDG 9 in Latin American and Caribbean Middle-Income Countries" in March in Bogota, Colombia. The app aims to strengthen regional and South-South cooperation by exchanging information and offers related to an inclusive and sustainable industry. Users can access information and statistics from LAC countries regarding their performance on SDG 9, funding and capacity building tools, and offers from key actors in the region, as well as the latest news and calls for proposals and a network of contacts, anytime, anywhere. Ms. Mireia Villar Forner, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Colombia, welcomed the launch of the application, highlighting that "the SDG 9 Accelerator, created by UNIDO, seeks to become an essential mechanism for communication, information, and collaboration to achieve sustainable and inclusive industrial development in the LAC region."
