UNIDO publishes the first global call-for-proposals of the Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility
08 July 2024
Vienna, 8 July 2024 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has published the first global call-for-proposals for the Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility. The call, which opened on 8 July 2024 and runs until 19 August 2024 16:00 Vienna CET will support catalytic and scalable pilot demonstration projects in developing countries (countries that are eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA) – please see the list here: https://www.oecd.org/en/topics/sub-issues/oda-eligibility-and-conditions/dac-list-of-oda-recipients.html) in four thematic areas key for clean energy transitions:
- critical minerals
- clean hydrogen
- smart energy (digitalization)
- industrial decarbonization
An international announcement event led by UNIDO’s Director General Gerd Müller and H.E. Corinne Kitsell, Ambassador, United Kingdom Mission, will take place on 18 July at 15:00 Vienna CET. Interested stakeholders can register here to join the event virtually.
Accelerating innovation for climate action is a priority for UNIDO and contributes to ensuring inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing countries. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), nearly half of the emissions reductions needed to reach a global net-zero scenario by 2050 must come from technologies currently in the demonstration stage, highlighting the need for programmes, such as the A2D Facility, to target this important gap in the landscape of international climate funding. The A2D Facility is initially supported with GBP 65 million from the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero.
