UNIDO's new digital map: Compass Platform is launched.
15 February 2025
Vienna, 15 February 2025 – UNIDO has officially launched the Compass platform, an innovative digital map with geo-spatial data that provides an overview of the organization’s programmes and projects, previous years’ data, solutions, suppliers, field offices and impact stories. Initially introduced to Member States during the fifty-second session of the Industrial Development Board, Compass has now been fully released and is accessible to all.
This platform replaces the UNIDO Open Data platform, offering enhanced features and content that reflect UNIDO’s commitment to openness and transparency [1] in engaging stakeholders and providing insights into UNIDO’s work globally. The platform presents detailed information on projects, including financial data, project outcomes and outputs, timelines, project managers, gender-equality information, and more. It also highlights UNIDO’s field network of country offices and field based impactful stories, offering a deeper understanding of the organization’s contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and strategic priorities. These rich datasets ensure that viewers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope and impact of UNIDO’s initiatives.
The new platform stands out with its user-friendly design, streamlined navigation, and interactive tools that make data exploration more accessible than ever. Users can explore dynamic maps and charts presenting country-level data drawn from the UNIDO Industrial Analytics Platform. Enhanced search and filtering tools allow users to quickly locate the information they need, while the platform’s compatibility with mobile devices ensures that data can be accessed anytime and anywhere. Future updates will enhance the platform, including the integration of artificial intelligence to enable better impact reporting and strategic portfolio analysis, funding partner information, making Compass an even more powerful tool.
The transformation of the Open Data platform to Compass signifies UNIDO’s ongoing efforts to modernize its digital tools, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of its global audience. UNIDO encourages all Member States, partners, and the public to explore the platform and discover its many features. It serves as a gateway to understanding the organization’s far-reaching impact and its contributions to global development. To learn more and start exploring, visit Compass Platform.
“The Compass platform reflects our dedication to advancing sustainable industrial development and progress by innovation through transparency, digitalization, and collaboration,” said UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller. “It allows Member States and stakeholders to better understand our strategic priorities and the outcomes of our work. It is a critical step forward in showcasing how UNIDO’s initiatives drive meaningful change worldwide.”
