About
Agro-Industries and Skills Development Division (AIS) provides a range of specialized services and knowhow to address the specific needs of Member States in the industrial processing of non-food agricultural produce and industrial skills development to provide their populations with sustainable livelihoods.
AIS contributes to shared prosperity and economic competitiveness by strengthening value chains in agribusiness and rural areas such as textile, bamboo, coffee and tea or creative industries. The Division achieves its goals by supporting SMEs with policy and regulatory frameworks, innovative solutions and digitalization, industrial skill development and knowledge. AIS also fosters the development of market driven design products, packaging and branding, to support reaching new markets.
AIS contributes to global environment agendas (e.g. climate change, biodiversity, land restoration) by supporting the development of circular agribusinesses, by proposing nature-based solutions where chemicals are replaced by natural products, by-products are generated from left over organic material, allowing to generate value from biomasses while regenerate natural ecosystems.
AIS fosters strategic partnerships for the scale-up of agribusiness development, impact generation, fundraising, as well as skills development that fulfil the needs of the private sector and support governmental vision, planning and decisions.
The Division’s programmes have proven records of accomplishment in strengthening centers of excellence, in promoting demand-oriented industrial skills education, in supporting creative industries by leveraging on local heritage as well as in building new business models stemming on nature-based solutions.
By strengthening inclusive and sustainable industrial development, the division contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets the reduction of inequalities, poverty alleviation, and the generation of decent work for all.
