6th Chemical Leasing Award Ceremony

Companies from around the world will be acknowledged for best practices, innovative approaches and ideas related to Chemical Leasing and similar performance-based business models for sustainable chemicals management. The 6th award ceremony will be held in Vienna on 13 March 2025 in a hybrid format with an in-person event combined with live streaming to a global audience. The event will be organised back-to-back with the UNIDO-Yale launching event of the up-dated Green Chemistry Training Toolkit, developed with EU funding under the IOMC Toolbox project, and further scaled–up and implemented within the framework of the Global GreenChem Innovation and Network Programme with the financial support of the Global Environment Facility.

Chemical Leasing aims at a more efficient use of chemicals in the production process by redefining the business relationship between the chemical user and the supplier. In the Chemical Leasing model, the supplier does not sell quantities but sells the function/performance of the chemical. The model aligns the interests and motivations of partners and helps achieve a win-win situation for them and for the environment.

The award ceremony will be co-organized by UNIDO together with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. Further support comes from Fecc, the European Association of Chemical Distributors and from ISC3, the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Center.

The first Global Chemical Leasing Award was organized in 2010, and was followed by ceremonies in 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2021. Since 2004, UNIDO has been promoting the Chemical Leasing concept with the direct support of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. So far, more than 300 companies have applied for the Global Chemical Leasing Award, showing the tip of an iceberg of many applications in various industry sectors. Chemical Leasing can be considered the most successful, “As a service” business model worldwide.

Further information on the application process can be found on the event page.
