Business partnerships

As one of the strategic priorities of the green industrial recovery programme for Ukraine, UNIDO is working with the country's businesses to foster impact-oriented public-private partnerships to drive reconstruction and sustainable industrial development efforts. By combining the unique innovative capacities of the private sector with the business support role of the public sector, as well as the technology and expertise of development partners, UNIDO will improve quality and productivity along value chains, create new market opportunities for products and services, as well as develop an enabling environment needed for industries to recover from the adverse effects of the war.

In particular, UNIDO is working with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine to develop a large-scale project to facilitate technology transfer from Japan to Ukraine for industrial recovery, strengthening of the employment market and the co-creation of new businesses. The project (full title: “Green industrial recovery project for Ukraine through technology transfer from and the co-creation of new businesses with Japan’s private industries”) will be implemented in two main phases, including feasibility studies and pilot technological demonstration from April 2025 until March 2028, and scale-up and evaluation from April 2028 until September 2031. Within the ongoing preparatory phase, private companies from Japan with cutting-edge technological solutions are applying on a competitive basis through calls for proposals for participation in the project. These applications are being analysed and evaluated against the established criteria. The identification of partner companies in Ukraine is mandatory.

The following thematic areas have been prioritized based on Ukraine’s industrial potential and Japan’s technological comparative advantages:

Ukraine Partnerships Areas

Should the proposed Japanese technologies in the above areas meet the criteria, it will be determined whether the subject companies already have partner companies in Ukraine operating in a given area or if appropriate partners are to be identified with the support of UNIDO and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The project will be implemented through grants to be shared among Japanese and Ukrainian partner companies. At present, no calls for proposals or any other mechanisms for application for Ukrainian companies are carried out. Further information on any related processes or opportunities will be made available on the websites of UNIDO and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
