This event will highlight the critical role of industrial decarbonization in achieving global climate goals, with a focus on the upcoming NDC 3.0 revision process. Industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders will discuss how to integrate ambitious, industry-specific targets into national climate plans, especially for high-emitting sectors like steel, cement, and chemicals. The event will feature a panel of experts presenting perspectives from finance, technology, and policy, as well as present UNIDO’s NDC Industry Decarbonization Support toolkit for NDCs 3.0, which provides practical guidance to countries for aligning industries with net-zero targets. 

Bilateral country partnerships and industry decarbonization platforms can accelerate the pace and scale of financial assistance while driving technology transfer, capacity building, policy and regulatory consistency to accelerate industry decarbonization. This event aims to showcase key successes from country industry decarbonization partnerships such as the UK-Brazil ID Hub and Sweden-India Industry Transition Partnership, as well as explore opportunities to coordinate and mobilize international assistance to accelerate green transitions globally.

This event will bring together stakeholders from emerging and developing economies alongside key institutions working towards decarbonization of heavy-emitting industries like steel and cement, crucial for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Ahead of the launch of the Global Matchmaking Platform (GMP) for industrial decarbonisation, scheduled to take place later in the day, this event will showcase pilot programs, share early experiences, and highlight the potential of the GMP to facilitate international cooperation to unlock finance and technology deployment. Key stakeholders, including delivery partners and recipient countries, will share the actions they are taking to help decarbonize their industrial sector. 

This session will showcase the latest innovations in small hydropower (SHP) technology, with a focus on their contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Discussions will highlight advancements in digital tools, pumped storage, hybrid energy solutions, and smart grid technologies. The event will also explore SHP's potential role in low-emission hydrogen production. Speakers will address past challenges, examine the latest trends, and provide future perspectives on scaling clean energy access, enhancing efficiency, and reducing costs, contributing to SDG 7 (clean energy), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 8 (economic growth). 

The Technology Day on Transformative Industry aims to inform countries on technology and policy options for hard-to-abate industries as they develop and implement their NDCs by sharing technology options and showcasing innovation, discussing policy options, and fostering partnerships for decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. The event is organized by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee in collaboration with UNIDO. The event comprises two sessions: one on technology and policy options for the steel and cement industries and the second one on fostering partnerships and collaboration for decarbonizing the steel and cement industries.
